The important features to look into before buying a helmet are:

  • Fit: Having a properly fitting helmet is very important because when you get a crash and if your skid lid is not fitted properly it will move around or even fall off.
  • Adjustability: Helmets contain chin straps and a fit adjuster which helps to give more protection to your head and this adjuster in the helmet will tighten properly the helmet shell on the user's head.
  • Tech features: For many years tech features have been important for helmets. Its focus is on ways of stopping a sort of side impact or a rotational impact so that the helmet moves around the head. The most well-known out there is MIPS (multi-directional impact protection system). Moreover, there are other protection tech feature systems present like DOT, EN1078, etc.
  • Weight: Lighter-weight helmets are better for mountain biking. Mostly now full-face helmets come with weight-saving technology which is helpful for riders. A less weighted helmet feels comfortable and protective during mountain biking.
  • Ventilation: This is another beneficial element to look for in mountain biking helmets as the air passes through these vents. It makes the rider cool and less warm during biking. Which is advantageous specifically in warm weather. The heat escapes through the head and air passes on the entire scalp which prevents sweating.

How To Measure A Helmet?

measure full face helmet size

You must select the right size helmet for you. It is because if the helmet is too small it will likely apply pressure to your head and you will feel uncomfortable. It may also sit high on your head. If the helmet is too big, there will likely be a space between your forehead or cheeks and the padding. So if the helmet fits just right  and cannot be easily displaced  and if this is the case you are good to go.

So, here are we describing the steps to measure a proper helmet size:

  • Take a measuring tape, preferably a cloth one.
  • Take a measuring tape and wrap it around the broad part of your head which is usually 1 to 2 centimeters or half an inch over your eyebrows and your ears. Avoid pulling it too tight if you want it to fit it.
  • Once you feel you have found the widest part of your head, wrap the tape around it. Remove the tape and check your size. It is better if you check it twice.
  • You should take several measurements until you find the largest one.
  • Now when you have determined what size helmet you need by using this measurement, check out the sizing chart given with your desired helmet on Amazon site.

Mountain riding is not a piece of cake. It is not just like riding on city roads. Bikers have to ride through difficult obstacles, face numerous sketchy jumps at high speed which sometimes result in falling off and hurting yourself. therefore, to prevent these traumas, full-face helmets are beneficial for mountain biking for extra safety on hard trails.
